New Romantasy Books to Add to Your TBR Right Now

Summer isn’t quite over yet, but as we make our way towards fall, I always find myself in the mood for a great romantasy read. Whether you're looking to extend the magic of summer or ease into the cozier reading season ahead, romantasy has a way of doing both. It can transport you to worlds where the stakes are high and romance burns hot. From brand-new standalones to long-awaited series continuations, this list has something for every kind of romantasy reader.

NEW STANDALONES

  1. A Dark and Wild Wood

    A Dark and Wild Wood

    by Sarah Nicole Lemon

Inspired by the French folktale of Bluebeard, this new romantasy is for the lovers of gothic fairytales. Ever since she was a child, Salomé has been plagued by visions of spirits and dangerous powers she can't control. After watching her foster mother burn as a witch, she and her beloved sister Rochelle are raised together in a convent, a grim and dreary existence. Until one day, Rochelle vanishes. Determined to find a way to save her, Salomé runs. Deep amongst the trees of the wild Black Forest, she comes face-to-face with Lord Death.

  2. The Lost Book of Lancelot

    The Lost Book of Lancelot

    by John Glynn

Named a Best LGBTQ+ Book for Pride by People, The Lost Book of Lancelot is an epic Arthurian fantasy and queer romantasy all in one. A nameless orphan raised on the Isle of Women discovers he is Lancelot — tied by prophecy to the fate of King Arthur's court — and trains alongside the charismatic Galehaut, whose bond with Lancelot deepens into a love that will shape both their destinies. When Lancelot is summoned to Camelot, he must navigate loyalty, legend, and the truth of the life he left behind, all while quests for the Holy Grail and the threat of Roman forces close in around him.

  3. The Winged Game

    The Winged Game

    by Sophie Kim

It’s not every day you encounter a fantasy sports romance (or maybe we should call it sports romantasy?) book. Carriwitchet, the violent, rugby-esque sport played atop winged beasts, was once Taissa Cho's whole world — until her rival, Kion Locke, exposed her illegal magic in the middle of a game and ended her career in disgrace. When Taissa is offered a shot at redemption, there's just one catch: the offer comes from Kion himself, complete with a contract clause requiring them to fake a relationship for the cameras.

  4. Death Card

    Death Card

    by Jasmine Smith

For my YA romantasy lovers, you need to check out this dark contemporary fantasy featuring witchcraft, tarot, death, and a bit of romance. Set in New Orleans and steeped in witchcraft and tarot lore, Death Card follows eighteen-year-old Mikaela Broussard, heir to her coven, who turns over the Death card during a reading and sees a vision of a beautiful stranger stabbing her in the heart. To figure out why the girl, Joelle, wants to kill her, Mikaela has to keep her close — and the closer she gets, the harder it is to stay afraid.

NEW SERIES

  1. Heir of Prophecy

    Heir of Prophecy

    by Analeigh Sbrana

The first book in the Clash of Prophecies duet, Heir of Prophecy follows Audra, a human woman whose quiet life is upended when magic returns to the world and she is abducted by a cult of Fae Priestesses and conscripted into a magical war academy. Unlike her fellow prisoners, Audra's emerging powers are erratic and violent, marking her as the prophesied Heir the Priestesses are desperate to find. As she fights to conceal her identity, she's haunted by visions of a dark, seductive being who doesn't want to save the world, he wants to reclaim it. With enemies-to-lovers tension, dark academia vibes, and two conflicting prophecies pulling her in opposite directions, this is a duet opener you won't be able to put down.

  2. Death's Daughter

    Death's Daughter

    by S.A. Barnes

Jocasta has spent her whole life trying to be normal — no easy feat when your father is Death himself. She feeds on her classmates' disappointments instead of their lives, she has good friends, and she's finally found somewhere she belongs. Then Death upends everything by naming her his sole successor, and suddenly a mysterious new presence arrives in her quiet college town the same night her friend turns up dead.

  3. The Lure of Wolves and Whispers

The Lure of Wolves and Whispers

    by Amanda Connolly

This dark, Irish lore-inspired romantasy is sitting next to me on my desk as I write, tempting me to keep reading. When her sister is gravely injured, Maeve risks everything to buy forbidden magic on the black market and trades her own life to a ruthless, dangerously alluring rebel leader to do it. Bound to his service, she begins to suspect he knows far more than he lets on about the Martyr, a legendary mage rumored to be in hiding, waiting to restore magic to a kingdom that has lived under its ban for years. As she unravels his dangerous plotting, a dark past emerges that ties him to a prince who may be even more brutal than his tyrannical father and who holds the key to whether they survive at all.

THE STORY CONTINUES...

  1. In the Wake of the Ruined

In the Wake of the Ruined

    by Kalie Cassidy

In the Wake of the Ruined is the stunning conclusion to The Siren Mage duology. The book continues the story of Imogen and Theodore as they continue the battle against an ancient and sinister water deity while also battling the forces that seek to keep them apart. If you’re a fan of Rachel Gillig or Hannah Whitten, you need this on your TBR. Just make sure you start with book one, In the Veins of the Drowning

  2. Rites of the Starling

    Rites of the Starling

    by Devney Perry

After the cliffhanger at the end of Shield of Sparrows, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Rites of the Starling. Calandra's five kingdoms are on the verge of destruction, Odessa’s been separated from the man she loves, and she's being hunted across a cursed realm while protecting a young girl counting on her to survive. I especially love the new characters we meet in the second installment of this trilogy. The final book in the series, Seven and the Swift, is set to be released in March of 2027 and I cannot wait to see where Devney Perry takes us next!

  3. The Raven at the Ash Door

The Raven at the Ash Door

    by K.A. Linde

Another Monster War is on the horizon. In the third book of the Oak & Holly Cycle, Kierse McKenna's magic is bound to a man she hates. To break the binding, Graves will stop at nothing, including tracking down a legendary stone relic that's been missing for a century. Meanwhile, the Fae Killer is hunting, the fragile peace with monsters is fracturing, and the very rules of their world are beginning to shift. This was one of the most heart-wrenching cliffhangers I’ve read in a long time, so be warned. We still don’t have a release date for book four, although we know it’ll be sometime in 2027.

No matter where you are in your romantasy journey, I hope this list has something to keep you turning the page as summer fades and fall settles in. Make sure you save these books on Libby and wherever you track your TBR!
