Y2K reads: Big books of the 2000s

When the ball dropped on the 20th century, we partied like it was 1999 (thanks, Prince). Y2K didn’t crash our computers, and society didn’t crumble, but the early aughts did usher in a new era of reading. In 2003, the Cleveland Public Library became the first public library to launch digital ebook lending, changing how we access books forever.

Today, there’s a renewed fascination with all things Y2K (hello again, butterfly clips and low-rise jeans) and that nostalgia extends to popular books from the 2000s. Many of these early-aughts bestsellers are still being devoured today, whether in hardcover, ebook, or audiobook. And I feel uniquely qualified to guide you through some of the most memorable—after all, I lived through it and had the Delia’s catalog to prove it.

So whether you're feeling nostalgic for the good old days or discovering these iconic 2000s books for the first time, this list highlights a few of the books that defined the decade. Many of the most popular authors of the 2000s are still publishing hits today (shout out to John Grisham, Janet Evanovich, and many others below!).

If you missed these great books the first time around, check them out on the Libby app and see what all the buzz is about!
