Superman’s back on the big screen! Here’s what to read first.

When people feel powerless, heroes are born. In 1938, as the world teetered on the edge of World War II and the Great Depression burdened everyday life, Americans were desperate for protection and strength. In Cleveland, Ohio, two young creators answered the call with a new kind of hope: Superman—the world’s first superhero.

The new Superman movie, in theaters on July 11, is a homecoming. Filmed largely in Cleveland, it honors Superman’s creators and the city that shaped their vision. Their stories wove the Midwest’s grit and heart into the early comics, making everyman’s America the true birthplace of heroes.

Whether you want to brush up on lore and legacy before the film or keep the adrenaline pumping after you leave the theater, we’ve got you covered. Check out our super recommendations on the Libby app and celebrate the hero in all of us.
