Like the seasons, your reading mood can change over time. If you’re like me, you always want to be reading a romance novel, but sometimes, you’re in the mood for something sweet and not spicy. You’re in it for the story, love, banter and all the great things that make up so many classic rom coms and love stories we’ve enjoyed for generations. Jane Austen wrote some of the most iconic romance books of all time, yet you'll never see so much as a kiss in any of her novels. Sometimes, as they say, less is more.

So, if you find yourself in the mood to sweeten up your TBR, here's a list of some low heat romance novels, aka “closed door romance,” that you can get on your Libby app that are the complete opposite of spicy romance, but will still have you falling in love. While there might be no spice in these stories, the romance between all of these couples is off the charts!

If you’re rooting for Taylor and Travis...

The Cheat SheetThe Cheat Sheet by Sarah Adams

While this story doesn’t entirely parallel the world’s favorite power couple (and by “entirely” I mean the only real similarity is that the male main character plays football...), this is a story that will help scratch that itch for real life news about the couple! Bree, former dancer and current dance studio owner, has been in love with her best friend, NFL player Nathan, for as long as she can remember. They're firmly in the friend zone, until a series of ill-timed confessions to a TMZ reporter leaves Bree and Nathan in need of drawing up some new plays, in this case, fake dating to save both their reputations and her studio. Will this plan end up a touchdown for both of them or will they fumble the ball?

If you know that women can kick butt...

The BodyguardThe Bodyguard by Katherine Center

I’d like to start by saying this is a very popular title for books, some of which are very spicy, so make sure you’re checking out the Katherine Center book or you might be quite surprised! What's not a surprise is how much of a delight this book is, and how much you’ll fall in love with the story and the characters. Hannah is the best bodyguard in the business, and she’s just picked up the gig of a lifetime, protecting Jack Stapleton (yes, that Jack Stapleton!), famous movie star, from a violent stalker. The catch: He doesn’t want anyone to know that he needs protection, so Hannah is also tasked to pretend to be his girlfriend. Can she protect her heart while protecting his life?

If you’ve ever had an imaginary (boy)friend...

Dream OnDream On by Angie Hockman

To be fair, the man that Cass thinks she’s dating when she wakes up from surviving a near-fatal car accident is real. The catch: She’s never met him and no one around her seems to know who he is. Fast forward a year, and Cass is living a perfect life in Cleveland, Ohio (same, girl!), when she happens to see her dream guy, Devin, in a neighborhood coffee shop. After confessing her vision to him, he’s charmed and agrees to keep seeing her, though his protective brother, Perry, hates everything about this idea. Will love between Cass and Devin bloom on the shores of Lake Erie or is her heart sending her in a different direction? Come for the sweet love story, stay for all of the great Cleveland content!

If you wish life was more like the movies...

Never Been KissedNever Been Kissed by Timothy Janovsky

Have you ever written a letter to a crush? Maybe several crushes? Have the letters ever been to crushes who had no idea they were the object of your affection? And maybe then one day, you decide to send all of them out to those people, even if you regret it the next day? This is where Wren finds himself, and while he’s trying to convince himself that no one will ever read his emails, the person who shows up at his drive-in movie theater to be the new social media intern happens to be one of the people who got one of his emails, Derick. With all the time they're spending together, will this be the chance for Wren to get his first kiss and maybe lead to the love that both didn’t know they were looking for? Read this one with a big bucket of popcorn in the comfiest of chairs!

If you want to be where the books are...

Kiss the GirlKiss the Girl by Zoraida Cordova

As a romance fan, who is also a Disney Adult, the entire Meant to Be series, which includes titles by Julie Murphy and Jasmine Guillory, has been a real treat for me. Full of longing, love and lots and lots of Easter eggs for fans of The Little Mermaid, along with other Disney movies, this is a romance novel that you’ll be dying to try. Follow Ariel del Mar under the sea... err, on tour, with an up-and-coming new act, Eric Reyes. She’s selling merch for him, but he has no idea she’s a pop music princess. Will this voyage bring stormy seas or will it be smooth sailing? The entire Meant to Be series is stand-alone, so don’t feel the need to read the others first, though you’ll want to once you’re finished with this one!

If you have a thing for a person in a uniform...

Falling Hard for the Royal GuardFalling Hard for the Royal Guard by Megan Clawson

They say write what you know, and for Megan Clawson, who spent several years living in the Tower of London with her “Beefeater” father, a ceremonial guardian of the Tower, that experience turned into a romance novel full of historical facts and a modern love story. Having moved back in with her father after a horrible breakup, Maggie finds herself where most 20-somethings who are back home don’t, namely living in a national landmark, surrounded by tourists and coworkers 24-7. Trying to date in this environment, especially after such a terrible relationship, is pretty much impossible. When she meets a new guard, Freddie, and he starts her thinking about the future more than the past, she might have just found her knight in shining armor.

If sometimes you wish you could forget...

10 Things That Never Happened10 Things That Never Happened by Alexis Hall

Wait, another memory loss book on this list? Unlikely, I know, but this one is only fake memory loss! While Johnathan, the owner of a bed-and-bath shop in Sheffield, England, is attempting to fire Sam, his store manager, Sam trips and falls, briefly knocking himself out. When Sam wakes up, his confusion is interpreted as amnesia, and Sam's suddenly finding himself recuperating in Johnathan’s home, meeting his family and helping with the office holiday party, all while secretly trying to save his employees’ jobs by finding the softer side of their boss. As their attraction grows, they both must deal with the complicated nature of their situation, that of a boss and employee (or former employee, perhaps?), along with the huge lie of Sam’s amnesia that isn’t that easy to overlook...

If you want a trip to the past...

A Duke, the Lady, and a BabyA Duke, the Lady, and a Baby by Vanessa Riley

There’s plenty of wonderful historical content that's low-spice as well, so I'd remiss if I didn’t include this wonderful book, the first in the Rogues and Remarkable Women series. Patience, a West Indian heiress living in England, questions the mysterious death of her husband, but her questions get noticed by the wrong people, and she ends up being institutionalized and separated from her infant son. After a daring escape, she manages to be hired as the nanny for her own child, who's now in the care of Busick, the Duke of Strathmore, and cousin to her husband. Busick is also trying to find out the truth about his cousin’s death, though he can’t help but be distracted by his ward’s new nanny, Patience. Can these enemies find common ground, the truth and perhaps, love?
