There’s nothing like hearing the crack of a bat to let you know it’s officially here: Baseball season. For fans, it doesn’t get much better than kicking back on a sunny day with a foam finger, a helmet full of nachos and a grown adult running around as Phillie Phanatic, Bernie Brewer or Mariner Moose. Of course, there’s so much more to America’s favorite pastime, and to help you kick off the beginning of a new season, we’ve compiled a list of books about the history and love of the sport that’s sure to be a home run.

Since the only thing better than sitting in the stands or going knee-deep in dust out on the diamond is reading about it, we’ve added a full lineup of books to last until the playoffs. If you prefer to dive in to the history behind the sport, try K: A History of Baseball in Ten Pitches by Tyler Kepner or Satchel by Larry Tye, a fascinating account of a baseball odyssey. You can also opt for classic baseball literature like The Natural by Bernard Malamud (and then go back and watch or re-watch the acclaimed film starring Robert Redford).

Baseball season is long, so you’ll have time to knock a few of these books out of the park. Browse your library’s digital collection in Libby to start reading or listening today. Just don’t get mustard on your ereader.
