Books for Scorpio: Our picks for the passionate readers of the zodiac

Share:

It’s Scorpio season, babes. ✨ We’re fully in fall—the leaves are crispy and orange, the air has a chill, and the fragrances are heady. This time of year is mysterious. The days are shorter, but there’s still a brightness and life as the world begins to prepare for the winter chill.

Scorpio, born between Oct. 24 - Nov. 21, is the eighth astrological sign in the zodiac, symbolized by the scorpion. This symbol comes from Greek mythology—as a scorpion killed Orion, the Scorpio constellation rises and Orion vanishes. Scorpio is a water sign along with Cancer and Pisces, and Scorpio’s colors are deep red, maroon, black, and brown.

Scorpios are intensely passionate, fiercely loyal, and they are unyielding in their determination. They can sometimes be seen as aloof, secretive, and intimidating, but that’s not usually from a place of malice (I can say it... I am a Scorpio).

Scorpios are the passionate readers of the zodiac for a reason: If they love a book, author, or narrator, they love them fiercely and have likely gone through their entire catalog more than twice. When they share a recommendation, their favorite read, or their thoughts on a book, take it seriously because they’re letting you see in!

Some famous Scorpios you might identify with include Winona Ryder, Katy Perry, Ryan Gosling, Anne Hathaway, Whoopi Goldberg, and of course, Silvia Plath.

CackleCackle by Rachel Harrison
🎧 Audiobook

Now, you could easily pick up most of Rachel Harrison’s books for Scorpio season, but there’s something about Cackle that screams Scorpio to me. Maybe it’s the mysterious and magnetic Sophie—she has this irresistible pull on our main character, helping her tap into her true sense of self and power. There’s just something about her... okay, it’s definitely Sophie that seals the deal for Cackle making this list.

If you like mystery and witchy, but want to go a little lighter on the scares, this is for you.

A Cosmology of MonstersA Cosmology of Monsters by Shaun Hamill
🎧 Audiobook

A contemporary gothic novel that’s part family drama, part Lovecraftian horror beautifully blends two aspects of the Scorpio aesthetic. First, there’s the ties that bind us to people and then the power of the unknown and dark. Described by The New York Times as a “gothic tour de force,” this dystopian sci-fi book by fellow Scorpio Kazuo Ishiguro will speak volumes to this sign.
