A 10-step checklist to personalize your Libby app

Everybody’s reading habits are unique. Maybe you’re the type who devours twisty mystery ebooks late into the night. Or maybe you're a thriller audiobook adrenaline junkie during your afternoon walk. So, why shouldn’t our reading app be just as personalized as our reading tastes? Good news—it is! The Libby app can be tailored to match your style in just a few easy steps.

Grab your device and let’s dive in to making Libby customized for you!

1. Choose your Libby icon color.

• Tap Menu, then the Libby icon at the top of the main menu to select from 5 different skin tones. Your selection will be saved the next time you open Libby.


2. Choose your text size.

Bump up that text size so your favorite stories practically pop off the page.

• In a book, tap the center of the screen, then “A.”

• From there, drag the "Text scale" slider to change the size of the text.

3. Choose your lighting.

Whether you like it bright for your morning coffee or dark and cozy for bedtime, set your perfect lighting vibe.

• In a book, tap the center of the screen, then “A.”

• From there, select Bright, Sepia, or Dark under "Lighting."

4. Choose where you usually read your books.

Read on Kindle or in LibbyAre you a Kindle reader, or prefer to read through the Libby app? Set your default preferences and you can always adjust for an individual book.

• Tap Menu, then Read Books With... (under “Settings”)

• Tap Kindle or Libby or tap I Have No Preference to choose how you open a book each time. The star icon indicates your current preference.

*Kindle Books are available for U.S. libraries only.


5. Choose when your loans should download automatically.

Download settings in LibbyDownloaded titles are great when traveling by car or plane with spotty Wi-Fi, or even camping in the middle of nowhere!

• Tap Menu, then Download Rules (under “Settings”).

• You can choose whether book and audiobook loans download automatically after you borrow them, and whether they download when you're not on Wi-Fi.

• You can also download a title manually.


6. Choose your audiobook speed.

• To change the playback speed in an audiobook, tap the speedometer icon. Then, choose a preset or drag the "Fine-tune" slider to set a custom speed (0.6–3x).


7. Choose the name and color of your library cards.

• Tap Menu, then Manage Cards (under “Your Libraries).

• If needed, switch libraries.

• Tap the three dots (on your card), tap Rename Card, rename your card, then tap Save. Or, tap Personalize and choose two colors to change the colors for this library.


8. Choose your navigation features.

• Tap Menu.

• Under “Settings,” select Navigation.

• Turn on Labeled Icons.

• You can also set preferences on how the Now Bar is displayed.


9. Choose what you want to be notified about.

Managing notifications in LibbyNever miss a hold, renewal, or the excitement of a new book waiting just for you.

• Tap Menu, then Notifications (under “Settings”).

• If prompted, allow Libby to send push notifications.

• Choose how to be notified for each event: Ignore (no notification), Shelf notice (in-app notification), or Notification (push notification).


10. Choose your devices to sync Libby.

Copy to device in LibbyRead across devices so your reading adventure never skips a beat. If you already use Libby on one device, use a setup code to sync with another device or browser.

• Tap Menu, then Copy to Another Device (under “Your Information”).

• If the device where you are setting up Libby is displaying a code, enter it here to transfer your data to that device.

• You can also copy your data to a new device using a recovery passkey.

• Tap Menu.

• In the footer, tap Libby Life to go to www.libbylife.com.
