It’s been awhile since I’ve spent time in Charlotte, NC. And even then, I never left the conference area to really see this beautiful city. Charlotte is one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. Working with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Library and School District, we were lucky to see three very different locations.
Wednesday night, the Check Out Your Library team hosted Author Emily Farris at Protagonist Brewery in Lower South End (LoSo) Charlotte.
If you don’t know Emily, learn more at ThatEmilyFarris.
She recently wrote I’ll Just Be Five More Minutes, a book of essays about life, love, and discovering she has ADHD at age 35.
Emily and Professional Book Nerds co-host Joe Skelley delighted guests with a funny and entertaining conversation.
Attendees enjoyed food, drinks, and books. It was a great night and next year we’ll do more events at breweries. Maybe a winery, too!
Thursday morning the crew at WBTV hosted the LV and shared their library love with all of Charlotte. Mario Lopez, the Communications Specialist with Charlotte Mecklenburg Library joined us on the LV. He nailed the interview!
That night took us to the Charlotte Knights game! The minor league baseball game was a blast and the stadium in downtown Charlotte is a homerun.
Our setup just in front of the stadium entrance included book recommendations, a baseball-themed photo opportunity, Charlotte Mecklenburg Library card sign-ups, a Plinko game, and of course, lots of free swag.
We joined thousands of fans for an exciting Knights win (10 innings!) against the Toledo Mud Hens. Side note: the vegetable chorizo nachos were amazing! And I met this stunning young lady, Pippa.
We rounded out our Fiction and Film tour with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Mobile Library on Friday at the Keith Family YMCA. Everyone was so lovely, from the YMCA team to the Mobile Library staff.
And, here’s a hot tip for anyone who works out: listen to audiobooks; a good book will keep you motivated. We gave that advice to all the gym goers at the YMCA.
That’s a wrap! Go to checkoutyourlibrary.com to see where we’re headed next.
But before you leave...
1. What are you reading? I’m about to start Look Closer by David Ellis. An audiobook, of course.
2. And, what are you watching on Kanopy? Here’s a couple to check out this week:
☑️ Anatomy of a Fall, a terrific Oscar-nominated murder mystery. I loved it!
☑️ Triangle of Sadness, a dark comedy with multiple award nominations is on my watch list.
