School’s out, summer’s in, and with long daylight hours, you have even more time to squeeze in some fresh, new reads. From debut writers making a splash to mega-bestselling authors joining forces, there’s plenty to keep you glued to that hammock until the sun goes down.
To start off the month, master storyteller James Patterson joins Michael Crichton, creator of Jurassic Park, ER, Twister, and Westworld, to bring us Eruption (June 3), based on a partial manuscript Crichton started before his untimely passing in 2008. This mega thriller about a history-making eruption about to destroy the Big Island of Hawaii is a collaboration not to be missed.
Popping up on beach blankets everywhere will be Swan Song by Elin Hilderbrand (June 11), which brings her Nantucket novels to a brilliant finish: when rich strangers move to the island, social mayhem and a possible murder follow.
Rounding out this summer-y stack is another series finale, Tomi Adeyemi’s Children of Anguish and Anarchy (June 25), narrated by Tony, Grammy, and Emmy Award–winner Cynthia Erivo. In this earth-shaking conclusion to her captivating YA fantasy series, Zélie has to face her final enemy and save her people before the Skulls annihilate them for good.
