We asked readers on the Libby app about their favorite thing to do while listening to an audiobook. Again and again, they told us: Painting, knitting, coloring, sewing, crocheting, quilting, origami—you name it, they’re making it. There are so many crafty readers out there, and I like to consider myself among them. When I was a kid, I loved to draw and color, but as I got older, that hobby went by the wayside. Having my own daughter reignited the spark and now I gleefully stock our craft drawer (for her, of course) with watercolors, paintbrushes, markers, sculpting clay, dot markers, googly eyes, stickers, beads and shrink art and carve out time on the weekend to make a mess.
While crafting alone can help you unwind, think, read (hello, audiobooks!) or just fill in some free time, connecting with fellow crafters is a great way to socialize with like-minded creatives and possibly even pick up a few pointers. Many libraries offer crafting book clubs where readers can meet to discuss a book they’ve read while working on a project like Crafts and Cozies at the Cuyahoga County Public Library (OH) or listen to an audiobook as a group like at the Hawaii State Public Library’s Listen, Color, Craft and Relax Audiobook Club. Check with your library to see what’s offered in your area. If you have your own crafting buds, choose a project for everyone to start together, try out a new material, learn a new medium and just have fun.
Are you itching to start a new project or get some inspo for your next? Flip through these crafting books on the Libby app for ideas or new techniques to take your hobby to the next level.
